Elizabeth Matheson - Uncommon
elizabeth Matheson - Uncommon
October 6, 2022- January 29 2023
Cassilhaus is honored to present an exhibition of imagery from one of North Carolina’s most loved and respected photographic artists, Elizabeth Matheson.
Uncommon is an unexpected survey of images drawn from Matheson’s fifty-year career ranging from her early vintage gelatin silver prints, to her stunning (and mostly unseen) self-portraits, and her contemporary large-scale color work. From Hillsborough to Havana, her ever-evolving, yet singular style rewards the patient viewer with an uncommon stillness, a sly humor, or a meditation on beauty and order. This exhibition is a not-to-be-missed deep dive into some of the most interesting corners of the life work of a treasured artist.
Curated by Lori Vrba and Kent Corley
Supported by the dream team (Frank Konhaus, Christina Wytko, Molly Renda, Tash Lehner, and Wojtek Wojdynski) and in enthusiastic collaboration with Elizabeth Matheson.
